TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief Executive Officer of the Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, announced that 192 companies have expressed interest in participating in the upcoming waste-to-energy program. The initiative forms part of Danantara’s Rp50 trillion Patriot Bonds project.
Rosan said the waste-to-energy program is set to launch in November 2025, with the tender process beginning at the end of this month.
“This project has generated remarkable enthusiasm from both domestic and international investors,” he said during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum at the Jakarta Convention Center on Friday, October 10, 2025.
According to Rosan, the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries has communicated the program to 33 cities across Indonesia, inviting local governments to take part in developing waste-to-energy facilities.
However, he noted that only 10 cities currently meet the required criteria to participate.
Earlier, Danantara Indonesia held a coordination meeting on Tuesday, October 30, 2025, to discuss the project’s implementation.
In a press release, the agency stated that each waste management facility would be capable of processing 1,000 tons of waste per day and generating 15 megawatts of electricity, enough to power around 20,000 households.
The initiative aligns with the government’s push to expand new and renewable energy (NRE) sources. Rosan emphasized that the project represents a major step forward in Indonesia’s energy transition efforts.
He added that the program will also benefit local governments, as it eliminates the need for a tipping fee in waste management.
“The entire mechanism is covered by the Indonesia's State Electricity Company (PLN) with subsidies from the central government. This not only eases the regional budget but also strengthens the project’s long-term sustainability,” Rosan explained.
