TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has provided an official explanation regarding an incident involving the nose cone of flight GA-176 on the Jakarta-Pekanbaru route that went viral on social media.

Dicky Irchamsyah, Division Head of Garuda Indonesia, stated that the GA-176 flight operating from Jakarta to Pekanbaru on Saturday, March 7, 2026, landed safely and normally at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru.

However, during the landing process, there was an indication of an unknown airborne object near the aircraft. Dicky mentioned, "The indication of the foreign object was realized after the flight crew heard an unusual sound during the landing preparation," in a written statement on Monday, March 9, 2026.

In response, Dicky said that the Pilot in Command (PIC) immediately followed safety mitigation procedures according to operational standards to ensure a safe and controlled landing process. Currently, further examination is being conducted to identify the foreign object.

The GA-176 flight, operated using the PK-GFF aircraft, departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta at 3:35 p.m. and arrived normally in Pekanbaru at 5:14 p.m. All 117 passengers, along with two cockpit crew and five cabin crew, were confirmed to have landed safely, and the arrival process proceeded smoothly.

Upon arrival, the aircraft underwent technical inspection and investigation by the relevant team. Dicky stated, "Follow-up actions in the form of thorough inspection and fleet maintenance will be carried out before the aircraft is declared operational again in accordance with applicable flight safety standards."

Garuda Indonesia is actively coordinating with relevant aviation authorities to ensure that the entire handling process proceeds in accordance with aviation safety procedures and regulations.
