TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The world pays attention to the Vatican after Pope Francis' passing on April 21, 2025. The departure of the highest leader of the Roman Catholic Church marks the beginning of the process of electing a new Pope through the Papal Conclave, a centuries-old tradition rich in meaning and sacred protocol.
Pope Francis is a historical figure, the first Pope from Latin America and the first member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit) to sit on the throne of Peter. He breathed his last after struggling for quite some time with his health condition.
Following Pope Francis' passing at 88, global attention is now focused on the Vatican, the center of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis is known as a leader of the Church who has achieved many remarkable things.
