TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration has detained 43 foreign nationals during a supervision operation at several night entertainment venues in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The operation followed reports of alleged misuse of residence permits by foreigners working in the area.

“From our initial inspection, we found several foreigners working without valid residence permits,” said Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, in a written statement on Friday, October 17, 2025.

A total of 16 officers from the Immigration Supervision Subdirectorate were deployed for the operation. The team identified 38 citizens of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), three Vietnamese nationals, one Malaysian, and one Taiwanese.

Of the total, 20 women were found working as lady companions (LCs)—including 17 PRC nationals, two Vietnamese, and one Malaysian—using visit visas not intended for employment.

In addition, 17 Chinese men were discovered working as waiters and construction workers under similar visa misuse. Four others served as supervisors, while two acted as coordinators for the foreign LCs.

According to Yuldi, all 43 foreigners violated Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, which prohibits foreigners from using visit permits for work purposes.

He added that immigration authorities will summon the management of the entertainment venues suspected of employing them without valid work permits.

Yuldi emphasized that the Directorate General remains committed to upholding immigration law.

“Law enforcement is not only about regulating the presence of foreigners, but also ensuring that only law-abiding individuals who contribute positively to Indonesia are allowed to live and work here,” he said.

The Immigration Directorate General is currently conducting further investigations into the residence status and activities of the detained individuals.

Those found guilty of violating immigration regulations will face administrative sanctions, including deportation and entry bans to Indonesia.
