TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World (2025) is set to flip the script—Sam Wilson now steps into Steve Rogers' legendary shoes (and shield) to become the new Captain America. Quoted by Antara, this film promises a fresh, action-packed adventure that breaks away from the norm of past Marvel flicks.
Directed by Julius Onah and written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton, Captain America: Brave New World premiered in theaters on February 12, 2025. It is the fourth film in the Captain America series and the first to star Anthony Mackie as the main character.
1. The New Main Character
The film features Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) wielding the iconic shield of Captain America. Mackie takes on the lead role, accompanied by Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross or Red Hulk. Sam Wilson has to face various new challenges to maintain world peace.
Mackie, previously known as Falcon, a close friend of Captain America, portrays Sam Wilson. After Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, handed over his vibranium shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Sam Wilson assumed the mantle.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in February 2023, Ford revealed his reasons for joining the MCU. "I don't know, I just thought everyone seemed to be having fun in Marvel movies. I wanted to try something different and have fun entertaining other people with it," he said.
3. Red Hulk's Appearance
Thaddeus Ross, once the cunning Secretary of State who orchestrated the capture of Sam and the Avengers during the explosive events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), now serves as president with a bold new vision: teaming up with Sam to enshrine Captain America as an official military force.
However, Sam is drawn into an international scandal involving Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), a retired super soldier and prime suspect. As Sam delves deeper into the mystery, he encounters a formidable new adversary—the legendary Red Hulk.
In a heart-pounding moment, a shadowy figure seizes Captain America’s shield and slams it into the ground, the reverberating crash heralding the menacing arrival of Red Hulk and promising an epic showdown between Sam and this towering titan.
Similar to the comics, where Thaddeus Ross transforms into Red Hulk after absorbing gamma radiation from Bruce Banner, Ross’s relentless obsession with the Hulk legacy even led him to join the villainous Intelligencia. Known for his extraordinary strength and uncanny abilities, Red Hulk is set to ignite a battle of titanic proportions.
4. The Incredible Hulk as a Backstory
The Incredible Hulk (2008) provides crucial background information on the Hulk and other characters who reappear in Captain America: Brave New World. According to ScreenRant, Thaddeus Ross (originally played by William Hurt, now by Harrison Ford) is a military leader obsessed with hunting down Bruce Banner (Edward Norton). In the latest Captain America film, he is the president. The Incredible Hulk also reveals the key super soldier serum that transformed Banner into the Hulk, as noted by Comic Book Movie.
5. A Mix of New and Familiar Faces
Danny Ramirez returns as Joaquin Torres, a former Air Force lieutenant who takes over Sam's former role as Falcon. Tim Blake Nelson also reprises his role as Samuel Sterns, also known as The Leader, who last appeared in The Incredible Hulk (2008).
New cast members joining the film include Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, a high-ranking government official trusted by President Ross. Other notable names are Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, and Xosha Roquemore who will also flourish the list of star-studded cast.
