TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In this fast-paced era, work often dominates almost every aspect of one's life. The desire to succeed in the professional world often leads individuals to neglect their well-being. However, the balance between work and personal life, also known as work-life balance, needs to be considered, not only for physical, emotional, and mental health, but also for career success.

In short, work-life balance is the ability to balance one's professional and personal roles. According to the repo.darmajaya.ac.id journal, work-life balance is closely related to an individual's level of satisfaction when performing dual roles in life. Furthermore, this balance occurs when work responsibilities and family responsibilities can be harmoniously fulfilled.

Quoting from Business News Daily, career experts emphasize that work-life balance has many positive effects. According to Chris Chancey, the CEO of Amplio Recruiting, a good balance can reduce the risk of stress, minimize the potential for burnout, and increase happiness. This not only benefits the employees, but also the company, as employees become more loyal, productive, and absenteeism decreases.

On the contrary, an imbalance can trigger serious issues. Studies show that stress due to excessive workloads can have negative impacts on mental and physical health, ranging from depression to cardiovascular disorders. Additionally, performance decreases as energy is drained by work without sufficient recovery time.

Healthy Tips for Work-Life Balance

So, how can a healthy balance be achieved? Here are eight tips that can be applied:

1. Acknowledge that there is no perfect balance

Balance does not mean dividing time equally every day. At times, work may dominate, while at other times, family and hobbies may take precedence. The key is flexibility.

2. Love your job

Work is a part of life, but it should not be a burden. If the job feels toxic and draining, it's time to consider other options that are more aligned with your passion.

3. Prioritize health

Physical and mental health should be the top priority. This includes light exercise and meditation. If needed, it also includes seeking professional help. Healthy employees are happier and more productive.

4. Don't be afraid to "unplug"

Detach from screens and work emails occasionally. Quiet time without work matters can help the brain rest, generate new ideas, and prevent exhaustion.

5. Take time off or go on vacation

Vacations are not just for pleasure, but an investment in recharging energy. According to the U.S. Travel Association, Many employees waste their vacation days. However, with proper planning, vacations won't negatively impact long-term productivity.

6. Make time for yourself and loved ones

While work is important, personal life should not be neglected. Schedule time for your family, partner, or hobbies just as seriously as you schedule work meetings.

7. Set clear work boundaries

Separate work and personal matters. For example, avoid answering work emails outside of working hours or use separate devices for work. This is important to prevent continuous energy drainage.

8. Set goals and priorities

Use time management strategies, focus on the most productive work during your peak hours, and avoid distractions. Better productivity at work means more leisure time at home.
