Veteran Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn't take too kindly to being flattened by a 311lb offensive lineman on Thursday night, it's fair to say.

The wild moment occurred in the fourth quarter when the 41-year-old rolled back the years to throw a touchdown catch for Pat Freiermuth, the tight end reaching the end zone to give the Steelers a 31-30 lead with just 2:21 remaining in the game.

Delighted at the score, Rodgers pulled out his trademark arm pump celebration, before things inadvertently turned awry.

Not quite judging the situation correctly, 311lb lineman Broderick Jones was so excited to celebrate with Rodgers that he jumped on the quarterback's back, sending him crashing to the turf in Cincinnati.

Rodgers was instantly furious, rolling over onto his back to see who the culprit was.

He then jumped up to his feet and tried to shove Jones, before being held back by coaches before the situation escalated any further.

Rodgers, 41, looked stunned as he turned onto his back to see who had knocked him over

Ironically, just days earlier Rodgers had paid tribute to Jones' 'energy', speaking about him to reporters after practice.

'I got a lot of confidence in him,' he said of Jones. 'I really enjoy his energy. Sometimes I try to kick him in the a** a little bit in practice to get him going, but I like his positivity.

'He's always the first one to come celebrate with me on the field, I appreciate that.'

Given his serious injury issues in recent years, namely a tear to his Achilles tendon, Rodgers could be forgiven for being less appreciative at the unnecessary strain put on his body - especially from a teammate as big as Jones.

Rodgers and the Steelers were ultimately on the losing end of the game against the Bengals

Things got worse for the Steelers from there, too, as Joe Flacco, 40, went on to march down the field with the Bengals to set up a game-winning field goal in the final seconds of the game.

The AFC North rivalry game ended 33-31 in the Bengals' favor, taking them to 3-4 on the year, while Rodgers and the Steelers now sit 4-2 and still atop the division.

It was an historic night for Ja'Marr Chase, who had 16 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.

Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, belying his years to put on a show for the Amazon Prime cameras.
