The most expensive man in British football history, Alexander Isak, has returned to the Liverpool starting XI to face Nottingham Forest.

Sweden striker Isak has struggled for goals and game-time since his £125million move to the Premier League champions, scoring just once – in the Carabao Cup – and missing the last five matches.

He did not have a pre-season at all having forced through this transfer from Newcastle and the 26-year-old has struggled with fitness and niggly injuries ever since, with him being absent from the last month due to a groin problem.

But Isak is now back with a point to prove after boss Arne Slot said on Friday that he may have to 'fast-track' the striker's road to full fitness by playing him ahead of players that are in better physical condition.

That comes in the form of Hugo Ekitike who only makes the bench today. The ex-Eintracht Frankfurt striker has not scored for a month, with his last goal coming against his former club in Germany, though he did net for France over the international break.

In other team news for Liverpool, No 1 goalkeeper Alisson is back after nearly two months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
