Former England international Andy Carroll has been sent off on his maiden start for non-league club Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 36-year-old striker joined the National League South side in July after calling an end to his one-year stint at French outfit Bordeaux.

Carroll made his debut for Dagenham & Redbridge last week, coming on as a substitute during their 5-2 defeat by Worthing after recovering from a troubling hamstring injury.

He was given a starting spot and the captain's armband for Saturday's FA Cup clash against Bedford Town - but was sent for an early shower after being given his marching orders with a red card in the 45th minute.

Discipline has been a real issue for the Daggers in recent times, with Carroll's red card marking a third successive match in which they have been reduced to 10 men.

Away from the football pitch, Carroll has been in an on-off relationship with influencer Lou Teasdale.

The London club posted a brief update during the match, confirming Carroll had been sent off

The ex-England star hit back at speculation that he has split from Teasdale for the second time last week by posting a loved-up snap with her on Instagram.

It had been alleged that the tumultuous couple had ended their relationship for a second time after a make-or-break holiday failed to mend their romance.

However, Carroll took to social media to share a picture alongside Teasdale, confirming their relationship was still going strong.

Carroll signed for Dagenham & Redbridge on the same day the Daggers were purchased by a consortium of Qatari private investors.

Youseph Al Sharif was appointed interim chairman, with former captain Anwar Uddin MBE coming in as non-executive director.

Around an hour later, Carroll was signed and, as a part of his move to the east London club, he reportedly acquire a minority stake.

'I'm really excited to get started with Dagenham,' he said upon joining the club.

'My kids thought I was signing for Chelsea - they'll be in for a shock.
