TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has finally obtained the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificate for its iPhone 16 Series after negotiating with the Indonesian Government. The certificate covers the top-of-the-line iPhone 16 Pro Max to the more affordable model, the iPhone 16e.
Apple's latest phone is listed on the Ministry of Industry's TKDN site today, Friday, March 7, 2025. Thus, the phone is ready to be officially traded in the Indonesian market.
Among several Apple devices that passed TKDN, five models have a domestic content value of 40 percent. They are the iPhone 16 (with the code A3287), iPhone 16 Plus (A3290), iPhone 16 Pro (A3293), iPhone 16 Pro Max (A3296), and iPhone 16e - A3409.
After completing the certification requirements, Apple only needs to obtain the Postel certificate from the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) before marketing the iPhone 16 series.
The Ministry of Industry and Apple had previously agreed to the deal, including Apple's manufacturing plant and research and development center. Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
This agreement ends the tough negotiations between Apple and Indonesia. The U.S.-based technology company was initially banned from selling the iPhone 16 as it failed to meet the requirement of locally made components.
Companies usually comply with Indonesia's composition requirements through local partnerships or by including components from within the country. However, this time, the Komdigi Ministry is in charge of the distribution permit for the iPhone 16.
