TEMPO.CO, JakartaDeputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza has revealed that the ministry will meet with Apple Inc. next week to engage in more specific discussions regarding Apple's proposed investment in Indonesia.

“[The discussions] remain the same, but they will be more specific,” said Faisol in a conversation with Tempo on Friday, January 3, 2024. However, he stopped short of detailing specific points of discussion.

According to Ministry of Industry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, high-level officials from Apple's headquarters in the United States will be directly involved in the negotiations, scheduled to take place on January 7 and 8. “To negotiate with the Ministry of Industry on January 7-8,” Febri stated in a written statement on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Febri claimed that the Ministry of Industry has been actively inviting Apple to visit Indonesia for the past two months, with a formal response finally received at the beginning of 2025.

While the Ministry has previously engaged in discussions with Apple representatives regarding potential investment agreements, these interactions have not constituted formal proposal submissions. He underlined the importance of face-to-face negotiations to advance the investment process.

According to Febri, the Ministry of Industry has reviewed Apple's initial investment proposal and identified several key areas for further discussion and negotiation during the upcoming meeting.

During these negotiations, the government will prioritize national interests, particularly the development of domestic manufacturing within Indonesia. The government will encourage Apple to choose an investment scheme that aligns with the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) regulations, specifically the establishment of production facilities or factories within Indonesia.

Apple's initial investment plan involved an investment of US$100 million or approximately Rp1.61 trillion. However, Investment Minister/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani has urged Apple to increase its investment commitment to US$1 billion or approximately Rp16.14 trillion.
