TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is preparing for a major overhaul of the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems. According to The Verge, technology journalist Mark Gurman said this change will be one of the biggest design updates in the company's history.
This update will cover iOS 19, iPadOS 19 (codenamed Luck), and macOS 16 (codenamed Cheer), which will be introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2025, before being officially released in the fall.
"iOS 19 will be the most significant revamp for Cupertino’s mobile OS since 2013’s iOS 7, while macOS 19 will be the biggest update for Macs since 2020’s Big Sur," Gurman wrote in his report, quoted from GSM Arena, Thursday, March 13, 2025.
This new design is expected to be inspired by visionOS, the mixed-reality operating system used on the Apple Vision Pro. VisionOS has a different look to other Apple software. It emphasises transparency, floating interface elements and circular application icons.
This design overhaul will include major updates to various interface elements, including icons, menus, built-in apps, windows, and system buttons. Apple wants to simplify people's interaction with their devices and create a more consistent appearance across its entire ecosystem, whether on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
