Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Arsenal are having all the ball hear, so I bet Sir Keir is happy.

The only problem is, they aren't doing a whole lot with it as I type this post.

After having to watch international football this past two weeks, I was hoping for more entertainment.

I'm sure it will come.

Starmer watching on

Look who is in the crowd.

No matter what's going on in the world, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer always finds time for his beloved Arsenal.

When you love your team as much as Starmer loves the Gunners, you always find a way.

CHANCE! Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Guess what?

That's right, Arsenal have a corner, and, of course, they come close to scoring for it.

Declan Rice might be on the bench, but they are still causing problems as Gabriel gets on the end of a lovely inswinging ball.

But the usually deadly defender heads miles wide - not like him.

Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Oh dear...

Martin Odegaard is down, and this doesn't look good for the Arsenal captain. The magic sponge is out.

And, oh, he's up on his feet and walking now. The sponge has worked its magic again.

Always does.

CHANCE! Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Wow, that is incredible!

The ball drops to Mikel Merino at the back stick, and I start hovering over the goal button because he seems destined to score.

But Matz Sels somehow denies him from point-blank range.

It's an impressive stop, but after scoring a hat-trick for Spain in midweek, Merino has to be scoring that.

Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Ooooh...

Riccardo Calafiori has just caught Dan Ndoye, and the Nottingham Forest winger looks like he is being a bit dramatic, rolling about.

But the camera then shows he has a massive rip in his sock, so the challenge is worse than it looks.

He looks alright now, though, so it can't be that bad.

Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

This is a classic lunchtime atmosphere.

The fans are probably still wiping away the sleep from their eyes. This crowd is exhausted and quiet.

Hopefully something happens in teh first few minutes here to wake them up.

If not, it may be a boring afternoon... but hopefully not.

KICK-OFF: Arsenal 0-0 Nottingham Forest

This has a real Barclays feel about it.

Ange is back in, the international break is over, North London Forever has been sung, and away we go.

We are in for an exciting afternoon.

'All eyes on Eze'

All eyes will be on Eberechi Eze making his first Arsenal start today. He has that dribbling ability to unlock much in the final third.
His unveiling here at the Emirates a couple of weeks brought a raucous reception. Those supporters will be eagerly awaiting him.

Nearly go-time

Now Arsenal are wearing a jacket version of those warm-up tops.

I think that's even cooler.

I mean, come on, can we not get rid of football tribalism just so I can wear this Arsenal jacket without being called out by fans of the team I support? Nope, I'm not telling you who.

The Gunners players don't wear them for long, though, as after the shocking Premier League anthem comes to an end, they take them off.

Now it's time for North London Forever, and then it's go-time.

Kick-off looms

Now that is a cool warm-up shirt.

Arsenal have some belting kits this season, ones that I would genuinely wear if it wasn't deemed weird to don a shirt of a team you don't support.

Cool garms.

Anyway, they will have taken these tops off by now as they have finished their warm-up and are back in the dressing room.

They will be coming out of the tunnel in just a few minutes.

Atmosphere ramping up

Erm... I'm not really sure what's going on here.

These are some interesting mascot costumes, and they are kind of freaking me out a little.

Anyway, the atmosphere is building and it seems like the fans are more keen on these mascots than I am.

Maybe they think they are really having pictures with Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka.

Midfield trio reunion

Does that Arsenal midfield look familiar to you?

I swear I have seen it before somewhere, I really do. Yes, I know Martin Zubimendi is new at Arsenal, but honestly, I swear I have seen this trio play together somewhere.

Ahhhh, I got it.

This is a reunion of the midfield trio at Real Sociedad from the 2019-20 season. I knew I had seen them play together before.

Pretty mental that they are all wearing red now, eh?

'Intriguing to see how Merino plays'

There are a number of big omissions from the Arsenal starting line-up — yet it still is very strong. William Saliba is not in the squad, while Declan Rice is on the bench.
That leaves Cristhian Mosquera to slot in at centre back and Mikel Merino, who recently struck a hat-trick for Spain, starting in midfield. Both are talented players and it will be intriguing to see the Arsenal make-up without two of their senior figures starting.

Good omens for Arsenal

Chris is bang on, it really will be a tough start for Ange Postecoglou.

I mean, I think history speaks for itself when it comes to these two teams meeting. It usually only goes one way.

In all competitions, Arsenal have won their last six home games against Nottingham Forest by an aggregate score of 19-2. The Gunners are unbeaten in 14 games on home soil against Forest (W10 D4) since a 3-1 defeat back in March 1989.

Nottingham Forest have won just two out of 16 Premier League matches against Arsenal (D4 L10), and both wins came at the City Ground, in 1996-97 and 2022-23.

I have to be honest, I only see it going one way today...

'As tough a start as Ange could get'

Chris Sutton, former Chelsea striker, on BBC Sport:

I am not expecting an extreme change from Nottingham Forest in Ange Postecoglou's first game in charge. Sure, he will tweak things, and he has got his principles where he likes to play attacking football, but I can't imagine him going in with a high defensive line in his first game, especially against Arsenal.
A return to north London is pretty much as tough a start as he could get, even though Arsenal have a few injuries with Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Kai Havertz ruled out.

How will Forest fare with Ange-ball?

Change is in the offing for Nottingham Forest?

They couldn't have possibly rowed further away from their previous style of football by appointing Ange Postecoglou.

His style of play is the polar opposite of Nuno Espirito Santo's.

No more sitting back and launching fierce counter-attacks, they will have a high line and Postecoglou will demand his side to control the ball and create openings.

It is going to be box office. Well, it was at Tottenham.

It will be interesting to see how Forest's players cope with the change in style, considering how dramatic it will be.

Not exactly the easiest game to trial it in, either, is it?

Postecoglou: 'I have nothing to prove'

Ange Postecoglou, Nottingham Forest boss, speaking on Friday:

I just kind of let the players be and the staff because I'm sure Nuno had close relationships with all of them. They are human beings and I thought it was really important to let them deal with it.
I told them we have a game Saturday and there's nothing more important than that. We have to be absolutely ready for a big game and that's been the conversation. I haven't tried to expand on that too much.
I don't see it as a point to prove. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. You let your actions speak for themselves and you understand the responsibility you have. You have to provide joy to the supporters - that's why football clubs exist. They are the lifeblood of this game.
That's all I care about. I'll win things here and people will still have doubts about me. I just want to keep doing what I need to do doing because it brings hoy to people and allows me to live my dreams.

Ange in, Nuno out

This is not a post I envisaged having to write so early in the season...

After guiding Nottingham Forest back to Europe after years of battling relegation, you'd assume Nuno Espirito Santo had enough credit in the bank to keep his job just three games into the new campaign.

Wrong.

Relationships are crucial in football, and Nuno did not have a good one with sporting director Edu. That led to public bashings of the club's business, and a breakdown of his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis.

Once that happened, he was always a goner. It was only a matter of time.

Still, while it felt like the writing was on the wall for Espirito Santo, I was not expecting a Premier League return to happen so soon for Ange Postecoglou. It feels like just yesterday he was sacked by Tottenham.

Well, he's back, and boy, is he a man on a mission.

Rice DROPPED

Well, this is a surprise.

I didn't mention it in the original team news post because, well, I didn't actually notice that Declan Rice wasn't in the line-up.

I think my brain just assumed he was there - he always is.

Not today, though. Mikel Arteta has made a huge call to drop Rice to the bench. I can't think of why, it's strange.

Maybe an injury? Managing minutes? I mean, what else could it be?

It will be interesting to hear what Arteta's reasoning is.

Nottingham Forest Team News - ONE change

Ange Postecoglou has named his first starting line-up as Nottingham Forest head coach.

And well, it's no different from Nuno's, really.

Only one change from Espirito Santo's last game in charge, with Morato replacing Ola Aina, who doesn't make the squad.

Arsenal Team News - Eze STARTS

Was there ever any doubt?

Of course, Mikel Arteta trusts Eberechi Eze, and he hands the summer signing his full debut.

William Saliba and Bukayo Saka are both out through injury, so Noni Madueke and Cristhian Msquera start.

David Raya makes his 100th appearance for The Arsenal.

Eze to start?

Arsenal fans, I know that you have been wondering whether Eberechi Eze will make his full debut for the club today.

If you have X, you will already know the answer...

But if you don't, then this post is for you, as I want to build a little suspense before revealing the team news.

Will Mikel Arteta throw his shiny new signing into the mix, or will he bide his time with him?

Return of the Prem

By Harry Bamforth

Oh, it's good to be back, isn't it?

There is no sugarcoating it, the international break can be incredibly dull, and I'm pretty sure we were all wishing the days away just to get a taste of the Premier League again.

Well, I know I was.

Today, it returns with a match that has entertaining written all over it. Ange Postecoglou returns to his old enemy Arsenal with his new Nottingham Forest side. Yep, it's been a long two weeks.

Nobody knows what Forest side is going to turn up today, but what we do know is that it will be very different from the one we have been used to watching over the past 12 months.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta's Gunners will be hoping to evade Forest's new manager bounce and get back to winning ways, after losing to rivals Liverpool before the break.

Right then, shall we get this show on the road? Yes, we shall.
