Ashes pantomime villain Stuart Broad earned a reputation for refusing to walk when batting during his long cricket career, even when video evidence showed he was clearly out.

Trent Bridge from the bowling of Ashton Agar during the 2013 series immediately springs to mind.

But a Qantas flight attendant this week successfully managed to send the retired England paceman on his way as he looked to check-in for a flight from Melbourne.

NZ media outlet Stuff has reported that Broad, 39, attempted to join boarding group three - problem was, the Channel 7 commentator was actually in boarding group four.

His ticket was promptly rejected at the counter, with Broad left feeling frustrated - and beaten again, in Australia.

It follows England throwing away the first Ashes Test in Perth, where Broad was caught on camera looking visibly frustrated in the commentary box next to Aussie cricket legend Matthew Hayden as the hosts wrestled back the ascendency.

Many Aussie cricket fans would name Stuart Broad as their ultimate Ashes villain (pictured, after taking a wicket during the 2019 series)

After England threw away the first Ashes Test in Perth, Broad was caught on camera looking visibly frustrated in the Channel 7 commentary box (pictured)

'I think that's a genuine reaction and emotion, and that's why we love Ashes cricket so much,' the decorated quick told The Age when quizzed on the vision which went viral.

Broad also claims there is one reason the majority of Aussie fans found his reaction so amusing.

'The Aussies are revelling in it because they hate me so much,' he said.

And when former England captain Mike Atherton said it looks like 'it's going to be a long summer', Broad replied: 'is it ever.'

Following the eight-wicket defeat at Optus Stadium, England's persistence with 'Bazball' at the crease has been heavily scrutinised.

Ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan spoke for many frustrated fans when he stated in commentary for Fox Cricket: 'they have the tools to be really competitive, but you can't be competitive without brains.'

Meanwhile, Australia have named an unchanged squad ahead of the second Ashes Test in Brisbane from December 4.

Captain Pat Cummins won't play at the Gabba as his return from a back injury continues to be managed.

Under-pressure opening batsman Usman Khawaja has retained his place in the 14-man squad.

Australia: Steve Smith (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald and Beau Webster.
