Aussie boxer Nikita Tszyu has revealed he ‘could have died’ after his Jeep Wrangler was written off following a horror 60km/h accident in Sydney last month.
The 27-year-old, who announced in October that he and Michael Zerafa were set to end a longstanding family rivalry, admitted he was ‘lucky’ to walk away from the crash, after another car had smashed into the driver's-side door of his 4x4.
‘My car’s been written off completely,’ Tszyu explained to Code Sports, reflecting on how his car was struck by another driver while he was approaching an intersection on King George’s Road.
‘She smashed right into the door and I didn’t get the chance to react.’
Thankfully, Tszyu sustained only minor injuries following the incident, with the Australian fighter being forced to halt training for a short period as a result.
‘She turned into the intersection and didn’t even look and just T-boned straight into me on King George’s Road,' Tszyu added.

‘I was very lucky I was in that big four-wheel drive and not some other little car.’
Images of the aftermath of the crash show a huge dent and scratches on the driver’s-side door of his Jeep.
‘I could have died. It could have been bad,’ he added. ‘She hit me pretty hard, right in the driver’s door.’
Thankfully for the boxer, the doors on the Jeep were thick enough to protect him from suffering a major injury.
‘I could have broken something too – a shoulder or arm or something,’ he added.
Tszyu has fought just once in the past year, needing just one round to defeat Lulzim Ismaili back in August to stretch his fight record to 11-0-0.
He'll return to the ring on January 16, when he comes face-to-face with Zerafa.
Part of his delay in returning to the ring was related to a hand injury that he suffered in 2024, during a fight with Koen Mazoudier. He was forced to undergo surgery on the injury, but the issue has still troubled him since.

Tszyu explained that the thickness of the driver's-side door on his Jeep potentially saved him from a serious injury
But last month's car crash forced Tszyu and Zerafa to delay their fight, which was slated to take place before the end of the year
Last month’s car accident also pushed back his hugely anticipated meeting with Zerafa.
Tszyu had been originally slated to meet his compatriot before the end of the year.
He and his partner, Nikita Bedwell, announced earlier this year that they had become parents, with the happy couple welcoming a baby daughter, called Curiosity.
Reflecting on the car accident, the boxer revealed that he was thankful that his wife and baby weren’t in the car with him.
‘It was actually kind of a blessing. That’s the way you’ve gotta think about it in life,’ he said. ‘We were wanting to get a bigger car anyway.
‘Our family’s obviously expanding and I can’t be forcing my wife to get into a two-door Jeep and climb all over the seats.
‘Then we’ve got the dogs to get in the car as well, and a baby. It’s all a bit much.
‘I was by myself, which was a blessing as well. That’s why I wanted to upgrade to the biggest car I could find.
Zerafa (pictured) added that he believes he'll 'beat' Tszyu when they meet on January 16
‘I’ve upgraded to a big Hilux now.’
Tszyu, who is also the son of former light-welterweight world champion Kostya, left the sport to pursue a career in architecture before returning to the sport in 2022 to make his professional debut.
But after years of sledging and animosity between both the Tszyu and Zerafa camps, it appears we will finally see their beef settled, after Nikita’s brother Tim, snubbed the opportunity to fight Zerafa.
‘To share the ring with a Tszyu is going to be great so we’ll go out there and put all the bad blood to rest,’ Zerafa said.
‘I do believe I win. I believe I am the more experienced fighter, I’ve been in there with bigger names and I’ve beaten bigger names but there’s no pressure on me.’
