TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has prepared around Rp180.9 trillion in cash for new money exchanges during this year's Eid celebrations. BI Deputy Governor Doni Primanto Joewono said that the distribution will start from March 3 to 27, 2025.
Doni explained that compared to Eid 2024, there was a slight decrease in the provision of new money this year. "We have prepared around Rp180.9 trillion. It has decreased slightly by 1.6 percent from last year, which was Rp183.8 trillion. We reduced it slightly considering the expansion of non-cash acceptance," he said in a press conference announcing the results of the BI Board of Governors' Meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
This preparation is part of BI's annual program dubbed the Ramadan rupiah vibrant and the blessings of Eid (Serambi). According to Doni, the demand for the new cash exchange is always high during this period. "The need for cash during Eid is almost 25 percent of the total demand for cash throughout the year," he said.
Therefore, he said, this is an important time for distribution. The distribution process will be carried out in three ways: first through regular clearing services at places of worship. BI will later visit some mosques to fulfill exchange facilities.
The next method is joint services with banks, which will be carried out in certain places, such as Monas, Jakarta, and others. The third method is through thematic services. For example, if certain offices hold Ramadan bazaars, BI can be present there to provide exchange services.
Exchange services will be carried out in cooperation with banks at 4,000 points. Bank Indonesia also prepares 1,200 exchange points, for example, in toll road areas. To reduce long queues, people who wish to exchange cash are required to use the BI smart application for more organized distribution and clearer information about the exchange.
