Padres pitcher Yu Darvish will miss the entire 2026 season after having surgery on his elbow.
The five-time MLB all-star, 39, signed a six-year, $108million contract extension back in 2023.
But on Tuesday, Darvish released a statement on social media to reveal that he recently went under the knife 'to repair [his] flexor tendon' and 'have an internal brace attached to [his] UCL.'
'Last Wednesday, I underwent elbow surgery performed by Dr. Meister. I will not be able to pitch in games during the 2026 season,' Darvish said.
'I will work hard on my rehabilitation to be able to throw a ball comfortably again.'
The Japanese superstar first arrived in Major League Baseball back in 2012, when he joined the Texas Rangers.

The right hander has gone on to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres.
Darvish joined the Padres in 2021 and has three years remaining on his contract in Southern California.
It is unclear what this surgery will mean for the 39-year-old's long-term future. Darvish has been plagued by injuries over recent seasons.
Earlier this year, elbow inflammation sidelined the pitcher for three months.
