Bill Belichick may have told his Patriots players to avoid 'distractions', but former New England star Julian Edelman still believes that the legendary coach is not taking his own advice.

Back in May, three-time Super Bowl winner Edelman criticized Belichick's much-covered relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson, saying: 'We have got to practice what we preach.'

Of course, Hudson has drawn headlines for her involvement in Belichick's professional life - especially when she stepped in during his 'CBS Sunday Morning interview' - though things have quieted down recently.

Nonetheless, Edelman seemingly still finds his former coach's advice to be hypocritical.

'Everyone has their life outside of the sport. What he always told me is that we had to eliminate distractions. So, I don't know. You could take what you want with that,' he told PEOPLE.

'I remember getting yelled at for being a distraction, so I think we're all in the business of eliminating distractions. That's just from what I learned from him.'

Following Belichick's disastrous CBS interview - which Hudson reportedly stormed out of for 30 minutes according to TMZ - the school hired former Bears PR director Brandon Faber to handle the media storm around the coach.

However, Hudson re-emerged in the headlines last month when podcasters Charlotte Wilder and Madeline Hill's revealed she melted down during a 13-minute phone call.

Speaking to Colin Cowherd this spring, Edelman spoke about how the attention on Belichick and Hudson's relationship had 'snowballed.'

'... It's becoming a distraction. That's what we all think right now. This is becoming a distraction. We gotta practice what we preach here,' he said, referencing Belichick's former advice.

'We shouldn't be talking about our girlfriend. And that's how coach would say it to us. That's the truth. Let's make the main thing the main thing.'

Hudson and Belichick posed for photos before the start of the UNC game on Saturday

While Hudson was in the stands earlier this month as UNC were trounced by TCU in Belichick's first game, the Tar Heels have bounced back since that 48-14 defeat.

They beat Charlotte 20-3 last weekend and took down Richmond 41-6 on Saturday as Belichick earned his first home win with the school.

Hudson was spotted on the UNC sideline once again as North Carolina won in commanding fashion.

She had made a cameo appearance on the sideline prior to UNC’s opening loss to TCU but held off last week in Charlotte.

This weekend, she was seen posing for photos with her 73-year-old boyfriend before the game and engaging with various well-wishers during warmups.

UNC will be away from home next weekend when they travel to face Central Florida.
