Ian Evatt is poised to return to Blackpool as the club's new manager.

The 43-year old, who made 250 appearances for Blackpool as a player, is primed to succeed Steve Bruce as the League One club's new boss.

Bruce, 64, was sacked earlier this month after a poor start to the season which has left the Seasiders rooted at the foot of the table after 13 games.

Evatt, who was in Blackpool today, is expected to bring former assistant and ex Blackpool left back Stephen Crainey with him as part of his backroom team.

The two worked together at Bolton Wanderers previously.

Evatt was sacked by Bolton last year despite the club being just outside the play-offs but has remained a huge favourite at Bloomfield Road.

His first test will be the crucial crunch game against fellow strugglers Peterborough United on Saturday.

Evatt has been coaching since hanging up his boots in 2018.

After initially holding a caretaker role with Chesterfield, he has since held permanent positions with Barrow and Bolton - with his stint with the latter producing promotion to League One as well as an EFL Trophy.
