TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts light rain to wet nearly all of Jakarta today, Tuesday, January 14, 2025, except for the Seribu Islands, which expect moderate-intensity rain today.
Drizzles are also predicted for regions surrounding Jakarta, or the Greater Jakarta. Meanwhile, Bogor Regency and City are expecting moderate rainfall in small parts of the area.
BMKG releases an early warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms for several regions across Indonesia, including Yogyakarta, East Java, Bengkulu, Riau Islands, Bangka-Belitung, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, NTB, NTT, Maluku, and North Maluku.
According to the weather agency, the increased rainfall in the country is mainly caused by the wet air and water vapor carried by the Asian monsoon winds. BMKG noted that the Asian Monsoon Index showed a stronger value than normal in the past week.
BMKG expects some regions in the country, especially in western Indonesia, to face heavier rainfall for the next week, despite forecasting drizzles in Jakarta.
The condition is influenced by, apart from the Asian monsoon winds, the weak La Niña phenomenon, which has been expected to last until June 2025.
“As well as active atmospheric waves such as equatorial Rossby, Kelvin Waves, and Low-Frequency Waves, which can trigger convective cloud growth,” BMKG was quoted as saying in the weather outlook for the week of January 14-20, 2025.
