TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain in most provincial capital areas in Indonesia on Thursday, January 2, 2025. BMKG forecaster Bagas Briliano conveyed the weather forecast on the agency’s Youtube channel on Thursday, January 2, 2025, as reported by Antara.
The weather in the Banda Aceh and Pekanbaru areas is generally thick and cloudy. The potential for light rain occurs in Medan, Padang, and Tanjung Pinang.
Jambi City is generally thick and cloudy, and Lampung is foggy. Light rain is possible in Bengkulu, Palembang, and Pangkal Pinang.
Serang City is generally thick and cloudy. Light-intensity rain can occur in Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta. "Beware of lightning rain in the Semarang and Surabaya areas," Bagas said.
The Kupang area is predicted to receive light rain, while Mataram and Denpasar will receive moderate rain.
Pontianak City weather is generally thick and cloudy, and the potential for moderate-intensity rain can occur in the Banjarmasin area. "Beware of lightning rain in the Palangka Raya, Tanjung Selor, and Samarinda areas," Bagas added.
Gorontalo and Kendari are predicted to have light rain. Mamuju and Makassar rain with moderate intensity. Manado and Palu have the potential for lightning rain.
Sorong and Manokwari have the potential for light rain. Rain with moderate intensity is predicted to occur in Ternate. Lightning rain may occur in Ambon, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.
BMKG also asked the public to be aware of potential tidal floods that could occur in Coastal Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, West Sumatra, Jambi, Lampung, Coastal Banten, North Jakarta, North Central Java, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and North Maluku.
Temperatures in major cities generally range from 10-33 degrees Celsius, with air humidity ranging from 60-100 percent.
