BMKG's Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain Persists in Parts of Indonesia This Week

3 hours ago 13

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that extreme weather will likely persist in Indonesia for the next week.

One of the factors influencing this condition is the weak Australian Monsoon, which still indicates that the atmospheric conditions in most of the southern part of Indonesia remain humid.

"In several regions with strong atmospheric instability due to the warming (sea) surface, rain cloud growth is expected," according to BMKG in its weekly weather outlook for July 8-14, 2025.

Additionally, BMKG noted that the activity of other tropical atmospheric waves still predominates. Active Kelvin waves are expected in parts of Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and the eastern part of Indonesia, which trigger the growth of rain clouds in those regions.

Meanwhile, the Mixed-Rossby Gravity (MRG) waves are predicted to trigger atmospheric disturbances in the southern part of Sumatra, the southwestern Indian Ocean off Lampung, and the western part of Java. These disturbances support the growth of rain clouds.

Heavy Rain Potential in the Next Week

BMKG releases the early warning of potential heavy rain and strong winds in the coming week:

July 8-10, 2025
- Heavy rain alerts: West Java and Maluku
- Strong Winds: Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku

July 11-14, 2025
- Heavy rain alerts: Aceh, West Nusa Tenggara, and Papua Highlands.
- Strong Winds: Aceh, West Java, South Sulawesi, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Papua.
