TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned about the potential for coastal flooding in the coastal areas of Indonesia from March 6, 2025 to April 4, 2025.
In a written statement uploaded on its official Instagram account, @infobmkg, this potential flooding is caused by the phenomenon of the full moon on March 14, 2025, and the Super New Moon (the phase of the moon at perigee and new moon) on March 29, 2025. BMKG wrote, "It has the potential to increase the maximum sea level height," as quoted on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Based on water level data and tidal predictions, this coastal flooding has the potential to occur in several coastal areas of Indonesia, including:
- Coastal areas of North Sumatra
- Coastal areas of Riau Islands
- Coastal areas of West Sumatra
- Coastal areas of Jambi
- Coastal areas of Lampung
- Coastal areas of Banten
- Coastal areas of Jakarta
- Coastal areas of West Java
- Coastal areas of Central Java
- Coastal areas of East Kalimantan
- Coastal areas of South Kalimantan
- Coastal areas of Central Kalimantan
- Coastal areas of West Kalimantan
- Coastal areas of North Sulawesi

- Coastal areas of North Maluku
"The potential for coastal flooding generally affects the activities of people around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and inland fisheries activities," said BMKG.
