BMKG Weather Forecast: Drizzles to Wet Most of Greater Jakarta Today

2 days ago 19

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast rainfall in Greater Jakarta today, Friday, March 7, 2025. The rain is expected to be light in intensity but accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas.

Today's weather forecast is monitored through the official website bmkg.go.id and BMKG's official Instagram. In detail, West Jakarta and North Jakarta are likely to experience light rain from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, while South Jakarta and East Jakarta will be hit by rainfall earlier at 1:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, overcast weather will be predominant in Central Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, as well as the Banten region, namely Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City.

In West Java, namely Bogor Regency, Bogor City, and Depok City, light rain is expected from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. While in Bekasi Regency and Bekasi City, drizzles are expected from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. BMKG also warns Bogor City to be wary of thunderstorms.

Separately, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that they continue to carry out weather modification operations to minimize heavy rain in the local area. The operation, which has been ongoing since last Wednesday, March 5, will continue until Saturday, March 8.

In his statement, the Deputy of Weather Modification at BMKG, Tri Handoko Seto, explained that the operation is carried out by early precipitation of heavy rain brought by clouds while still above the sea before reaching the land. "Meanwhile, clouds that develop on land are seeded to disrupt their growth so that the rainfall is reduced," he said.

Seto added that joint personnel are making efforts to reduce rainfall in the river catchment areas, starting from upstream Bogor to downstream Jakarta and Bekasi.
