BNN: Drug Incineration Smoke Harmless Due to Advanced Process

14 hours ago 9

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) asserted that the smoke produced during illegal drug destruction is safe to inhale. Even for marijuana, which is typically consumed by burning, the resulting smoke is guaranteed to be sterile and causes no side effects.

Acting Deputy for Drug Eradication at the BNN, Brigadier General Budi Wibowo, said that the smoke from the incineration process no longer contains narcotics. "The smoke coming out of the narcotics destruction facility does not contain any traces of narcotics and is safe to inhale," he explained during a press conference on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Budi said that narcotics evidence is destroyed through incineration in a dual furnace incineration system. "Destruction is carried out using an incinerator machine with the principle of a dual furnace incineration system," he detailed.

According to him, both furnace units work sequentially in the incineration process. "This process takes a minimum of 2 seconds to ensure that no molecules escape without being broken down," he added.

In the first furnace, incineration occurs at temperatures ranging from 600 to 850 degrees Celsius. During this initial process, the molecules present in the narcotics slowly decompose, leaving behind fine particles.

The destruction process then continues in the second furnace, which operates at temperatures between 850 to 1100 degrees Celsius. Budi claimed that all narcotics molecules are ensured to break down at this higher temperature. "This furnace ensures that all remaining narcotic molecules are completely destroyed," he said.

The narcotics that have undergone incineration in both furnaces are then decomposed into simple compounds, such as carbon dioxide and water vapor. Budi mentioned that this process is called complete oxidation, where all carbon turns into CO2 and all hydrogen turns into H2O.

Budi also claimed that this dual furnace incinerator features advanced, scientifically proven emission control that meets international standards. He concluded, "It's capable of destroying 99.99 percent of narcotics traces."
