BNPB: Floods Struck 9 Regions Across 6 Indonesian Provinces

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods struck several regions across Indonesia, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Thursday, March 6, 2025. The agency’s emergency control and operation center noted that nine regions were flooded across six provinces.

In Karawang Regency, West Java, floods have inundated 8 villages and 1 subdistrict in 3 districts. A total of 10,180 individuals from 3,659 households were affected by the flooding caused by torrential downpours on Tuesday.

Abdul Muhari, the Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at BNPB, stated that the flood had forced 375 individuals to evacuate. A total of 2,997 houses were affected, including 23 public facilities that were also submerged.

"Currently, floods have started to recede several locations, except for 4 villages and 1 subdistrict that are still submerged with water levels ranging from 10-200 centimeters," said Abdul Muhari in his official statement on Thursday, March 6.

Floods also struck the Southwest Aceh Regency in Aceh. Based on the rapid assessment, a total of 46 villages in 8 subdistricts were affected by the flood. Abdul mentioned that at least 429 households were flooded. In addition, 1 place of worship, 1 school, 1 bridge, as well as rice fields and a national road, were also affected by the flood.

Some residents have begun to clean up their houses from mud and debris. The local government also provided assistance to the affected communities.

Still in Aceh, flood disasters also struck the West Aceh Regency. A total of 18 villages in 4 subdistricts were flooded with water levels of 30-40 centimeters. "At least 232 individuals from 56 households were affected by the flood and have encountered difficulties in carrying out their daily activities and mobilization," he said.

Floods also inundated approximately 682 houses in 8 villages and 2 subdistricts in the Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan. In addition, agricultural land covering an area of 15 hectares was also submerged, along with a palm oil plantation with around 500 seedlings, a chicken farm housing approximately 200 chickens, fruit orchards, government buildings, schools, public facilities, and a 300-meter-long road. "The current condition is that the flood has started to recede," said Abdul.

In Riau, floods affected 2,336 individuals from 584 households. The flood, with water levels ranging from 60-110 centimeters, submerging houses, 1,600-meter road section, 1 health facility, 4 schools, 1 place of worship, and 350 hectares of agricultural land.

Still in Riau Province, floods also struck the Rokan Hulu Regency since Sunday, March 2. The flood inundated Sontang, Bonai Darussalam District. This flood has affected 2,372 individuals residing in 610 houses. The water levels at the time of this article's release remained between 50 and 100 centimeters.

In Pekanbaru, a total of 3,812 individuals from 1,228 families were affected by the flood in the provincial capital of Riau, which has spread to seven villages in four districts. “Floods have gradually receded, and residents are cleaning up mud and debris from their homes,” said Abdul.

Floods also struck the North Sumatran village of South Marbo on Monday, affecting a total of 121 households, but the waters have gradually receded.

Meanwhile, the land movement phenomenon occurred in Bojong Koneng, Babakan Madang District, Bogor Regency, West Java. A total of 400 individuals from 109 households were affected. Abdul Muhari stated that all residents whose homes were affected had been relocated to rented houses upon the regent’s directive.

“Emergency tents have also been set up not far from the location as a precaution in case of subsequent land movements," said Abdul. "The Health Department is also on standby to provide health services for the affected residents."
