TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the body of the Indonesian citizen who was shot by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) in Tanjung Rhu will be repatriated after the autopsy process is complete.

The Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur received information from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) that the Indonesian migrant worker who died was a citizen of Riau with the initials B. PDRM said B could be repatriated after the autopsy.

"The Indonesian Embassy will carry out all procedures for handling the body, as well as facilitating repatriation to the area of origin," said Judha in a message to Tempo, January 28, 2025.

Meanwhile, for the 4 Indonesian citizens who were injured, the Indonesian Embassy said that they had received treatment at the hospital and were currently in stable condition. The Indonesian Embassy has obtained consular access to meet them on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Judha said that the five Indonesian citizens were victims of shooting by APMM around the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia, on January 24, 2025. At around 03:00 am local time, APMM shot at a ship in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor while on patrol.

The shooting was carried out after the ship's passengers allegedly resisted. This incident resulted in one Indonesian citizen dying and four others being injured.

In response to this incident, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur immediately took steps to ensure protection for the affected Indonesian citizens. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also sent a diplomatic note to Malaysia to encourage a thorough investigation, including highlighting the possibility of excessive use of force.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will continue to monitor developments in this case and provide consular and legal assistance, to ensure that the rights of Indonesian citizens are fulfilled in the legal system in Malaysia," said Judha.
