Cameron Norrie is set to tie the knot with his 'best friend' Louise Jacobi after proposing on a safari trip in South Africa.

The British No2 was holidaying at the andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge in Timbavati, around six hours from his birthplace of Johannesburg, when he got down on one knee.

'A special moment on our trip in South Africa. Cheers to a beautiful life together with my best friend,' Jacobi wrote on her Instagram account.

The Chicago-born fashion and textiles designer, 35, shared a carousel of heartwarming pictures following Norrie's proposal, in which the happy couple could be seen embracing each other on the trip's scenic roads.

Jacobi did, however, note that there was a 'real engagement ring to come' as she posed with a makeshift one on her pinky finger next to a grinning Norrie, 30.

The news was met to the delight of fellow tennis stars such as Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter, who themselves got engaged last year and rushed to the comments to send their congratulations.

Norrie's engagement comes around six years after he first met Jacobi in New York.

'A mutual friend, who used to play tennis at university, said, "I know some guys playing in the US Open and whenever they lose, would you be interested in going out that night and meeting some of them?" and the rest, as they say, is history,' Jacobi told Tatler earlier this year.

'I really went into it with no expectations. I do now know our friends were interested in introducing Cam and I to each other, so I think it was a premeditated introduction.'

But in those early days, Norrie's now-fiancee was not convinced that the pair would last. In fact, she even admitted that she 'just wasn't interested' in him due to his hectic schedule travelling the world.

Those fears meant Jacobi initially refused his advances, but she later gave in due to his 'persistence' and the fact he did 'an amazing job at keeping in touch' even when they were thousands of miles apart.

Their relationship then truly began to flourish after Jacobi's employer went bankrupt and she lost her job, prompting Norrie to invite her to the Erste Bank Open in Austria.

Jacobi did admit she had her reservations about Norrie due to his busy travelling schedule

'When he asked me, I thought, "I guess this guy doesn't live a normal life, and it's not like I can meet (him) down the street and go to dinner together," Jacobi said in 2022.

'So I went on this trip and was only supposed to be in Vienna for five days, and things just went really well. I had a wonderful time with him.

'In some weird way, I was like, "Thank God I got laid off when I did", because we were able to build the foundation of our relationship before Covid hit.'

Jacobi has been described as a 'calm and positive impact' by Norrie's parents and is often seen by the Briton's side, cheering on from the stands during his matches.
