Maresca: 'This is a big challenge'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, speaking to TNT Sports:

If you can keep the momentum it is always important, knowing very game is different, every game is tough. We need to go one by on.

On Cole Palmer's broken toe:

Yes it was also tough to lose him for the previous games but to lose a player like Cole is always difficult, but soon he will be with us.

On Moises Caicedo:

Nothing [to do with Barcelona and Arsenal]. The reason he is not in the first eleven is that came back Thursday night from Ecuador, from the national team, then just a light session with us yesterday, and the reason he is not playing is that it is impossible. To protect him a little bit.Happy [that this is my 50th Premier League game in charge]. Happy to join this huge club and I'm excited for the amount of things we can do. Big challenge. First of all they [Burnley] are a good team and they are with the same manager from last year winning the Championship, and they are doing well and fighting every game. So it will be tough for sure.

Why no Palmer?

We simply have to talk about this.

This looked like it was going to be the game Cole Palmer finally returned to after injury. But no, he has suffered a setback.

'What is that setback?', I hear you all ask.

Well, the Chelsea man has managed to fracture his toe after stubbing it on a door in midweek. Nope I'm not lying, this really happened.

How unlucky can you get? (Kind of funny in a way, though).

Go away wind

Happy place, happy place Turf Moor.

That's what Jordan North says, right?

Well, if I were a fan in these stands, I wouldn't be too happy here right now. It is absolutely Baltic, the wind is strong, and it has that nippiness to it.

We are at that time of the year, and I'm not a fan.

Maresca's young Blues

Wow, what a stat this is.

I knew that Chelsea had a young squad, but not to not start a player over 30 for 50 games is quite mental.

Discrimination, if you ask me... justice for the oldies!

I kid, I kid, 30 is certainly not old, and of course, it's a positive thing that so many young stars are getting the chance to strut their stuff.

'Chelsea will edge it'

Chris Sutton, former Chelsea striker, on BBC Sport:

Chelsea might have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is already stronger with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both back fit.I still think this game will be quite tight, though. Burnley are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal. This smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to go with Chelsea to edge it for what would be their third league win in a row.Enzo Maresca's side are third at the moment and seem to have found more consistency than they had last season, although I still don't see them as genuine title contenders. They are not as strong as Arsenal or Manchester City.

Three in a row for Pedro?

Joao Pedro has taken to Chelsea like a duck to water.

It feels like the Brazilian has been banging them in at the Bridge for years, but he obnly joined during the Club Wolrd Cup in the summer.

He is a man on form. Pedro has scored in both of Chelsea’s last two Premier League games and could score in three successive appearances in the competition for just the second time, after doing so in February/March last season for Brighton.

However, Burnely are the forward's bogey team.

The Brazilian has never scored in four games against Burnley in the Premier League, only facing Brentford (7) and Everton (5) more times without finding the net.

Is today the day that he changes that?

Bad omens for Burnley

If I were a Chelsea fan, I'd be pretty darn confident today. Not so much if my allegiances were with Burnley, though.

Why is that?

Well, Burnley have won just one of their 18 Premier League games against Chelsea (D5 L12), picking up a 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the 2017-18 season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have won eight of their nine Premier League away games against Burnley (D1), including each of the last six in a row.

Only at Bolton (9 between 2004 and 2011) and Sunderland (9 between 2003 and 2013) have they won more consecutively in the competition.

So yeah, history sides with Chelsea in this fixture... heavily.

Maresca: 'Delap struggles in these games'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea manager, in his pre-match presser:

For sure Liam is part of our learning process. I know Liam very well from years ago and Liam is a fantastic player, especially when there are spaces to attack. He struggles a little bit more when there is no space, in the way he is. So in games like Wolves and probably today, he is going to struggle a bit more because there is no space to attack.Against teams that we can attack in behind with space he is a top player, he is fantastic. But in the same moment it is a learning process for him, how to play against these teams, how to be better, how we can help him to be better, to play against teams that wait for us and sit back.

'Delap starts despite Maresca's worries'

By Kieran Gill At Turf Moor

This is only the second Premier League game that Moises Caicedo hasn’t started for Chelsea this season. The other one: Nottingham Forest away, also a 12.30pm kick-off immediately after an international break. He was brought on at half-time when 0-0 with Chelsea struggling and they ended up winning 3-0.Liam Delap also starts despite Enzo Maresca spending a good chunk of his presser yesterday telling us how much he struggles against these type of sides.

Chelsea Team News - Caicedo on BENCH

Ooooh, interesting...

Moises Caicedo is normally a staple for Enzo Maresca's midfield but an intense international break means he has been given a rest.

It means Andrey Santos takes his slot in the middle of the park while Liam Delap gets a start up top.

Happy with the team, Chelsea fans?

Burnley Team News - UNCHANGED

Normally, I say 'why change a winning formula', but the problem is, Burnley come into this game on the back of back-to-back defeats.

But still, Scott Parker sticks with his boys.

As you can see, Josh Laurent might be smiling, but he is starting on the bench, as is Armando Broja, who has had a miraculous recovery after going off injured against England last week.

Burnley in the building

Me too, Josh, me too.

Laurent is clearly as buzzing as I am to have the Premier League back in action, just look at that smile.

I mean, it must be that because I have seen the teamsheets and the midfielder is starting on the bench this afternoon.

I will drop the full line-ups soon, don't worry...
