TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Badminton World Federation (BWF) has released its latest world rankings for early 2025 after several high-profile players decided to retire and withdraw from international tournaments. According to official BWF statistics released on Thursday, January 2, 2025, the retirement of the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalists Zheng Si Wei / Huang Ya Qiong has allowed mixed doubles pairs ranked below them to ascend at least one position.

Among those benefiting from this shift are the Indonesian mixed doubles duo, Dejan Ferdinansyah / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, who have climbed to world number eight, solidifying their status as Indonesia's top-ranked mixed doubles pair. The top two spots in the mixed doubles rankings are currently held by two Chinese pairs: Feng Yan Zhe / Huang Dong Ping and Jiang Zhen Bang / Wei Ya Xin.

In the women's doubles category, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi have further strengthened their position as Indonesia's leading pair. Having debuted at the BWF World Tour Finals last year, Ana / Tiwi's consistent performances have propelled them to ninth in the world rankings.

The top three women's doubles pairs globally are Liu Sheng Shu / Tan Ning (China), Baek Ha Na / Lee So Hee (South Korea), and Nami Matsuyama / Chiharu Shida (Japan).

In men's doubles, Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto maintain their fourth-place world ranking, remaining Indonesia's top men's doubles team. Currently, no other Indonesian men's doubles pairs feature in the world's top 10, with the independent pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama / Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani positioned at number 11.

The top three spots in the men's doubles rankings are occupied by Kim Astrup / Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (Denmark), Liang Wei Keng / Wang Chang (China), and Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin (Malaysia).

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the bronze medalist in women's singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, now holds the sixth position in the world rankings. An Se Young (South Korea) continues to dominate the top spot in this category.

In men's singles, Jonatan Christie firmly holds third place globally, trailing only Shi Yu Qi (China) and Anders Antonsen (Denmark), who occupy first and second place, respectively. Notably, Jonatan is ranked ahead of two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) and 2023 world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand). Indonesia's second-highest-ranked men's singles player, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, is currently ranked 10th in the world.
