Chelsea's owners have once again recruited a former Brighton employee, with former Seagulls technical director David Weir joining Strasbourg,

Club owners BlueCo have become synonymous with recruiting players and staff from their Premier League rivals, including the likes of Marc Cucurella, Graham Potter and Moises Caicedo.

The Blues are, in fact, in double digits in terms of members of staff they have recruited from the club since BlueCo took over in spring 2022, with £60million Joao Pedro the latest player.

Now, though, former technical director Weir has become the latest recruit, joining Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg in France.

Strasbourg's X account posted on Friday: 'The Club is proud to announce the appointment of David Weir as Sporting Director, effective from Saturday November 1!'

It comes after Daily Mail Sport's Chelsea Confidential piece revealed that the 55-year-old was among their travelling party in Manchester for the Blues' defeat by Manchester United last month.

Chelsea have made another former Brighton appointment, with ex-Seagulls technical director David Weir joining Salsbourg

The Blues are in double figures in terms of recruitments from Brighton since BlueCo took over in May 2022

Weir had surprisingly left his role at Brighton at the start of September. Also in the box that day at Old Trafford was Behdad Eghbali, Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, Joe Shields, Sam Jewell, Daniel Finkelstein.

The new Strasbourg man worked at Brighton with Winstanley, with whom he is friends. Their wives are friends, too, and they accompanied their husbands in the box.

Weir was a Scotland regular in his playing days, and coached at Everton upon his retirement before becoming manager at Sheffield United.

After being sacked in 2013, he went onto coach at Brentford and Rangers, before taking up a role upstairs with Brighton.

Other members to make the switch from the Amex to Stamford Bridge include Bruno Saltor, Robert Sanchez, and Sam Jewell.

Caicedo, however, was the headline move, penning a £115million deal when he joined two years ago - a British transfer record at the time. He has gone onto play 111 times for the club.
