What's happening with Xavi Simons?

By William Pickworth

There was significant excitement when Tottenham completed the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for £52million towards the end of the summer transfer window.

But, as of yet, the Dutchman is yet to dazzle and in some quarters patience is starting to wear a little thin.

So, what has been going wrong?

Well, Daily Mail Sport has tried to find out...

Xavi Simons promised flair and Tottenham fans are waiting. Drumming fingers because he was unable to influence the game against Aston Villa. Rolling eyes about the failed 'rabona' pass at Leeds.

Last time out

By William Pickworth

It was a tale of two halves as a second half dismantling of Nottingham Forest by Chelsea saw off Ange Postecoglou's ill-fated reign at the City Ground.

Enzo Maresca's side badly struggled in the first period, but a triple half-time change by the Italian turned the tide as the Blues jumped up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory.

Given the second half display, Maresca's team selection will be interesting tonight, but in the meantime you can catch up with their clash agaisnt Forest below.

Chelsea: The story so far

By William Pickworth

One win and one defeat so far for Chelsea on their return to the Champions League after two years away.

They were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich in their opener, which although disappointing, isn't a terrible result given Vincent Kompany's side are arguably the continent's in-form team.

Enzo Maresca's men responded with a 1-0 victory over Benfica as Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues come in to tonight following back-to-back wins against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League - and they showed signs of their best football during those games.

Ajax currently sit bottom of the League Phase and the Dutch giants are not the side they once were, so Maresca will expect his side to continue their good form.

Tottenham: The story so far

By William Pickworth

It's been an interesting start to the season for Tottenham, who are yet to fully click under Thomas Frank.

They sit sixth in the Premier League and the story has been similar in Europe.

Spurs did beat Villarreal 1-0 in their first game of the Champions League in what was a slightly drab affair, before they fought back from 2-0 down to draw against Bodo/Glimt last month.

Four points from two games is not bad at all, but with matches to come against PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt in the League Phase, a win would be very much welcomed this evening.

English teams continue the charge

By William Pickworth

Arsenal and Manchester City secured comfortable wins against Atletico Madrid and Villarreal respectively last night, but this evening it's over to Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.

This is the third week of Champions League action this season and the trio each have won one win so far.

The Blues host Ajax, while Spurs travel to Monaco and Arne Slot's struggling side take on Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

It promises to be an exciting evening!
