TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2024, figures from the Nurcholish Madjid Society (NCMS), the Caknurian Community, the Cahaya Guru Foundation, the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika National Alliance, the Indonesian Conference on Religion and Peace, and Interfaith Solidarity Activists, visited GPIB Immanuel Jakarta which was welcomed by Rev. Ruben Persang and to the Jakarta Cathedral Church met with Cardinal Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo.
The arrival of interfaith figures such as Yudi Latif, Omi Komaria Nurcholish Madjid, Henny Supolo, Nia Sjarifuddin, Rev. Sylvana Apituley, Ilma Sovri Yanti, Liho Caroline, and others, is a concrete manifestation of interfaith solidarity to share in the joyful moments of Christians in Indonesia and around the world.
Female figure, Omi Komaria Nurcholish Madjid, said that visiting the church on Christmas Day is a good tradition that must be maintained, because it means silaturahmi to relatives who are feeling happy.
"Our neighbors are happy, so we must share their happiness," said Omi, who is also the Chairperson of the Nurcholish Madjid Society Advisory Board.
"Our religious paths are indeed different, but all religions glorify humanity. Therefore, we can feel the heartbeat of happiness on Christmas Day," said Yudi Latif, in front of the congregation at the Cathedral Church.
Yudi emphasized that religious communities must join hands, collaborate, and strengthen solidarity to resolve the problems faced in this country. Only by working together can religious communities ignite optimism and welcome the common home of Indonesia to be even stronger.
The Christmas visit with the theme "Caring for a Common Home with Solidarity & Love in Diversity" encouraged religious people to strengthen solidarity and love as a foundation for caring for the great home of the Indonesian nation.
"As residents of the big house, we agree on Pancasila. We feel love in the spirit of divinity, humanity, unity, equality, and justice," said Henny Supolo from the Cahaya Guru Foundation, in front of the GPIB Immanuel Jakarta Congregation.
The Archbishop of Jakarta, Cardinal Mgr. Ignatius Suharyo, invited all religious people to meet with other religious communities to add perspectives and strengthen ties of friendship. "Let's meet often. Because meetings will eliminate prejudice," said Cardinal Suharyo.
In the current situation of the country, continued the Cardinal, indeed interfaith meetings for interfaith dialogue activists are not too urgent. "But for the wider community, meetings with people of different religions are very important to tighten ties of friendship," he said.
Interfaith figures emphasized the need for religious communities to collaborate, work together, complement each other and enrich each other, so that multicultural society can live peacefully and harmoniously.
