TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bali Regional Police are pursuing a group of foreign nationals suspected of robbing a Ukrainian national, identified as ll, of crypto assets.
"The case is currently being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Ditreskrimum) of the Bali Regional Police, and the perpetrators are still under investigation," said Bali Regional Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Ariasandy, when confirmed in Denpasar on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The robbery went viral on social media. In this case, the perpetrators are suspected to be nine individuals who stole crypto assets amounting to Rp 3.4 billion from the victim's account.
Sandy explained that the incident took place on December 15, 2024. At that time, the victim and their driver, identified as A, were traveling in a white BMW.
Then, midway through the journey around Jalan Tundun Penyu Dipal, Ungasan Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, they were suddenly intercepted by two cars. The first car, an Alphard, blocked the road from the front, and the other from behind.
Following that, four individuals dressed in black with face masks and armed with knives, hammers, and a pistol came out of the front car. They then forced the victim and their driver to get into one of the cars, with their hands in handcuffs and their heads covered with black headgear.
Subsequently, the perpetrators took the victim and their driver to a villa in South Kuta, Badung Regency. Upon arrival at the villa, the perpetrators forcibly took the victim's phone, and hit the victim to coerce them into transferring crypto assets to two accounts believed to belong to the perpetrators.
"They assaulted and forced the reporter (victim) to provide the reporter's Binance account to forcibly take the reporter's crypto assets worth US$ 214,429.13808500 or around Rp 3,496,790,194," he said.
According to the former Public Relations Chief of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, the victim suffered injuries to the right ear, right and left wrists, bruises on the left hand, bruising on the left eye, bruising on the back of the head, and bruising on the right waist, with an estimated financial loss of around Rp 3.4 billion.
After experiencing the incident, the victim reported it to the Bali Regional Police's Emergency call center for further handling.
Sandy emphasized that the Bali Regional Police are serious about handling the case and hope that the perpetrators will be apprehended as soon as possible.
