Controversial safety CJ Gardner-Johnson has been released by the Baltimore Ravens just one week after signing with the team, according to reports.
ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news on Tuesday, claiming the two parties came to 'an amicable mutual decision' a mere seven days after Gardner-Johnson was added to the Ravens' practice squad.
The player's agent, Kevin Conner, says his client was keen to leave Baltimore after they also acquired veteran safety Alohi Gilman from the Los Angeles Chargers as part of a trade involving pass rusher Odafe Oweh.
'After the Ravens traded for a safety, we were looking for a clearer path to play,' Conner is quoted as saying.
It marks Gardner-Johnson's second release in the space of a month after he was also cut by the Texans in September. He was traded to Houston by the Philadelphia Eagles just weeks after winning the Super Bowl.
