Robert Griffin III has denied using a racial slur during a live college football broadcast at the weekend after a clip of his commentary for Fox raised eyebrows.

The former NFL quarterback, who joined Fox Sports' college football team this year after being released by ESPN in 2024, was calling the Kansas Jayhawks' game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders when the controversial moment happened.

When Texas Tech running back J'Koby Williams rushed for a huge gain at Jones AT&T Stadium, an animated Griffin could be heard jokingly calling for someone to get him 'some milk'.

However, the word he used to refer to Williams divided opinion online - with some fans claiming the Fox commentator said: 'Get that n**** some milk!'

A video of his soundbite quickly went viral on social media, with some users left amused by the alleged quote and others calling for Griffin to be fired by Fox for using a racial slur.

Yet amid the contention, the ex-Baylor star and 2011 Heisman Trophy winner took to X himself to clear up what he actually said on the mic.

'I clearly say “Get that MAN some milk”,' Griffin said about the viral clip before adding a huge amount of laughing emojis.

'Y’all Funny Though,' he then added before another set of laughing emojis.

Griffin, who played for the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens during his NFL career, landed a new broadcasting gig with Fox after being cut by ESPN last year.

The 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was fired alongside Samantha Ponder as part of a shake-up by the network, with whom he had spent roughly three years as a college football commentator and Monday Night Countdown analyst.

'To say I was surprised [about getting fired], I had already been assigned a team for college football. I was going to be back with my [broadcast team]. It hurt me for them, not because they need me because they don't,' Griffin said on the Rich Eisen Show at the time. 'That's the thing about this business - nobody needs anyone. But just because we were so close, and we were kind of getting the chance to rekindle that fire. That had already been assigned.'

Earlier this month Griffin revealed he and his family were involved in the 'worst car accident of our lives' after sharing terrifying photos from the scene.

While confirming that they were all safe and well, he opened up on the 'scary' crash that occurred as he drove with his wife Grete and their children in Fort Worth, Texas.

'Just got in the worst car accident of our lives with my wife and kids in Fort Worth, Texas,' Griffin wrote. 'Scary crash, ricocheted off the highway divider multiple times, blown both front tires. Thankful to God that my wife and kids are safe.'

He appeared to be in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with his family when the collision happened. The other vehicle was left in a significantly worse state, with the front bumper and hood completely destroyed in the crash. However, Grete confirmed on Instagram that 'everyone in that car is alive and well'.

'Got everyone checked out in the ambulance and kiddos are all well and healthy,' she added in a separate post.

'I hit my head so will get a CT scan and Robert's back is also getting checked out'.
