An assistant high school football coach and father of the team's quarterback is facing disciplinary action after allegedly trying to tackle an opposing player, igniting a melee and prompting a call to local police.
Palo Alto High School assistant coach Jason Fung has been identified by the Bay Area News Group as the culprit following the mid-game skirmish during his team's 28-21 loss to the Sacred Heart Prep Gators. The school has since placed Fung on administrative leave, public information officer Lynette White said in a statement.
Fung's son, Justin, is seen dropping back and avoiding the pass rush on the play, only to roll left and be sacked along the sideline. Moments later, a Gators player emerged from the pile with the ball in his outstretched hand.
It's then that man dressed as an assistant coach is seen grabbing that Sacred Heart player's leg, igniting a short shoving match. Bay Area News Group has identified that man as Jason Fung.
Atherton Police Commander Dan Larsen said his department received a report of a coach making physical contact with a player from an opposing team, according to PaloAltoOnline.com. Officers interviewed both parties but didn't make any arrest as the family of the player did not wish to pursue criminal charges.
Palo Alto officials have since released a statement on the matter.

'We are aware of the incident that occurred at Saturday's football game and take this matter very seriously,' read a school statement. 'Our administration team is working closely with the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) and Central Coast Section (CCS) to fully understand what transpired and to determine the appropriate course of action.
'We are also coordinating with our District Human Resources department regarding next steps.'
Central Coast Section commissioner Dave Grissom is also reviewing the incident and could offer further punishment, according to the Bay Area News Group.
Palo Alto is considered one of the top public high schools in the country, not to mention a football powerhouse that has produced NFL stars like Davante Adams and Jim Harbaugh.
Justin Fung has committed to play at nearby San Jose State, where his brother Jeremiah is currently a freshman wide receiver.
