TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investment Management Agency Danantara Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SK Plasma Co. Ltd. in the healthcare sector. The goal of this agreement is to reduce dependency on imports and improve domestic healthcare services.
"Through collaboration between SK Plasma's technical expertise and investment from Danantara Indonesia, we aim to improve the quality of patient care and contribute to saving lives through innovative and globally standardized therapies," said Danantara Indonesia's Chief Investment Officer, Pandu Sjahrir, in a statement on Friday, October 31, 2025.
Danantara has identified the healthcare sector as one of its eight priority sectors and plans to invest in blood plasma facilities and healthcare infrastructure. SK Plasma, a company from South Korea, leads globally in Plasma-derived Drug Products (PODP), which produce therapies for rare diseases and critical conditions.
PODP is a drug made from human plasma through fractionation processes. These therapies are crucial in treating various serious and even life-threatening diseases.
This collaboration, according to Pandu, is expected to strengthen Indonesia's journey towards self-sufficiency in plasma derivative drugs and the creation of high-capacity job opportunities. SK Plasma also commits to facilitating knowledge transfer through employee training in South Korea.
"In line with various other investment initiatives that are currently underway, the signing of this MoU is a crucial milestone in building a healthier and more resilient Indonesia," he added.
Through this collaboration, Danantara and SK Plasma intend to strengthen PODP's local manufacturing capabilities, beginning with the construction of a facility in Karawang, West Jakarta, scheduled for completion in 2026. SK Plasma is working through PT SKPlasma Core Indonesia to build plasma fractionation facilities to produce PODP drugs, thereby reducing imports, driving technology transfer, and developing the workforce.
SK Plasma's Chief Executive Officer, Kim Seung-joo, welcomed this collaboration to strengthen Indonesia's healthcare sector. "We will work closely with countries in need of essential drug allocations to contribute to the improvement of healthcare infrastructure worldwide," he stated.
Following this signing, both parties plan to explore further investment opportunities and will announce details at a later time.
