Dannika Mason’s new fiance, Liam Knight, is set to make a huge call on his career, with the Hull FC player revealing that he wants to return to the NRL to be closer to the Channel Nine star.

Knight popped the question to the Today show presenter in October while the pair were on a romantic holiday in Italy.

They beamed from ear to ear as they posed for a selfie, with Mason flaunting a glittering diamond engagement ring.

The 6ft 4in prop and Mason are understood to have begun dating at the beginning of 2024, after her engagement to Todd Liubinskas was called off.

At the start of the year, Knight left the Canterbury Bulldogs and agreed a deal to join Super League side Hull FC on a seven-month deal.

Speculation had been mounting in recent months that the footy star, who played 19 times for Hull last season, had been keen to make a switch to return to Australia.

Liam Knight has made a huge claim about his future career, stating that he wants to one day move back to the NRL to be closer to his fiancee Dannika Mason

Knight had initially been contracted to the club for a short period of time, but would go on to put pen to paper on a 12-month extension at the club.

And last month, he took to Instagram to tell Hull fans that he would be ‘seeing them next year.’

While it appears he’ll see out the rest of his deal with Hull, Knight added that he is keen to return to Australia at some stage in the future to play in the NRL.

‘I want to come back to the NRL,’ Knight said on the Elevate with Mets podcast.

‘I love it over there (in England). I love playing footy. The crowds are hectic, the fans are cool, it is good quality football.

‘I went there to win, I’m not there on a holiday. I’m over here doing long distance, missing everyone at home, my girlfriend and everyone.

‘I’m not here to muck around. I want to make a difference and be a leader, win some games and then come back to the NRL.’

The 6ft 4in prop forward has played for several clubs in Australia throughout his career, first signing for Manly in 2016 before going on to play for Canberra, South Sydney and Canterbury.

Knight is currently playing for Hull FC in the Super League and is due to see out the remainder of his 12-month contract

Having played 19 games for Hull, the former South Sydney player, who hails from Alice Springs has become a big fan favourite among the English fans.

His longest stint would come at the Rabbitohs, with Knight going on to make 66 appearances for the Bunnies.

Mason, meanwhile, has opened up on the long-distance relationship, stating: ‘We’re lucky. We can celebrate each other’s wins from afar.

'It’s probably beneficial that he doesn’t have to hear a 3.45am alarm go off every morning [for the Today Show].’
