Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has admitted that he may have to let former NBA star and podcaster Patrick Beverley go, should he be proven guilty of the allegations against him.

The former Milwaukee Bucks point guard, 37, was arrested last Friday in Texas and is facing a charge of Assault on a Family Member or Household Member Impeding Breath or Circulation.

In police documents obtained by Daily Mail, Beverley was accused of choking and hitting his teenage sister after she allegedly left the house to visit her boyfriend. Beverley has refuted the allegations through his attorney.

Beverley, who most recently played in the Israeli Basketball Premier League with Hapoel Tel Aviv after his departure from the NBA last year, has hosted The Pat Bev Podcast on Barstool's platforms since 2022.

Despite the shocking allegations against his employee, Barstool chief Portnoy was initially reluctant to immediately part ways with Beverley, saying in a livestream earlier this week that 'we stick with our guys until there’s a reason not to.'

However, following the release of the police report, which detailed the bombshell allegations against Beverley, Portnoy performed a slight U-turn, admitting that he would pull the trigger should the accusations be proven true.

'Obviously horrific police report,' Portnoy began on The Unnamed Show - another of Barstool's podcasts - on Thursday.

'That's his life and he's gotta figure all this out. It's horrible. He's taking forced time away from Barstool and we'll see.

'If this turns out somehow not true, we'll let this play out. Certainly what is hanging there, we can't have him be a part of what we're doing right now and we'll see how it settles.

'But this is horrible, how it read. If there's any truth to it, he won't be back at Barstool.'

Portnoy then indicated that he would wait until a court case played out before he made a decision on Beverley's future with the company.

'There's no reason, on my end, to move unusually quick here,' he said. 'It's a very serious issue.

'Before the police report came out... we were still going to do the pod. We had his version of events. The police report comes out, brutal. Called him like, "Hey, just saw this police report, we can't be working with you right now. Figure out your life. Figure out whatever is going on here and we will regroup whenever there is a resolution."'

Beverley was released from Fort Bend County jail after posting $40,000 bond last Friday.

Beverley has been charged with choking and assaulting his younger sister

Beverley's sister - who is a minor - told officers that she left the family home in Richmond, Texas, in the middle of the night without permission in order to see her boyfriend, according to police documents.

The boyfriend was identified as Aiden Hilderbrand. Attorneys for Beverley say that Hilderbrand is 18-years-old.

Beverley's sister - whose name was redacted from police reports - returned home, only for her mother Lisa to confront her. Lisa told her daughter to call the person she left to see and ask him to pick her up.

After Hilderbrand arrived, according to police, Lisa invited him inside and brought him up to her daughter's bedroom. Lisa then asked Patrick to visit the house and enter her sister's bedroom.

According to police, Patrick began to yell at his sister and ask 'what is wrong with her' before he grabbed her by the neck and picked her off the ground.

The victim claims she felt pain and felt she was losing oxygen - saying Patrick squeezed her neck for between 20 and 30 seconds.

Patrick allegedly then pulled her out of the room, still holding her by the neck, and slammed her against the walls.

According to the probable cause affidavit, his sister tried breaking free by grabbing his wrists, before Patrick allegedly put her down on the sofa, stood on top of her, and then 'punched her approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist.'

The report also says that Beverley told his sister that 'he will be the family relative to kill her.'

During this time, Lisa was allegedly in her room and told Hilderbrand to leave the house, which he did. Police say Patrick then followed behind him - later returning to tell his mother and sister that Hilderbrand had called police.

After authorities arrived and noticed marks on the neck and blood spots under the skin around her eye, Patrick was arrested.

In another statement, which was provided to TMZ , his attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, also said: 'Patrick is not a violent man and was not violent that night.

'In fact, he was very respectful with the authorities that night and encouraged others to do the same.

'He has always looked out for their wellbeing and will continue to do so,' she continued.

'I have every expectation that when all the facts are in, Patrick will be cleared of these charges.'

Beverley also posted a statement from his attorney on his Instagram story.

'Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,' the statement read.

'Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.'

'However, we don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.
