TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The race for medals kicked off at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand on Wednesday, December 10, a day after a vibrant opening ceremony at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium. Indonesia is eyeing its first gold medal from the downhill mountain biking event, which begins this morning.
According to Antara News, Indonesia’s top male downhill rider, Rendy Varera Sanjaya, will compete at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Bang Phra, Si Racha District, Chonburi, at 09:00 AM WIB. In the women's category, Milatuh Khaqimah and Riska Amelia Agustina will also be on track for Indonesia.
Downhill cycling remains one of Indonesia’s strongest medal prospects. Milatuh enters the Games as one of the best in the region, having won the Asian championship in both 2024 and 2025. Her recent achievements make her a strong contender for gold in Thailand.
Indonesia is also aiming for top podium finishes in badminton, one of its most successful SEA Games sports. Both the men’s and women’s national teams have reached the finals of the team event and are scheduled to compete for gold today.
The women’s team, led by Putri Kusuma Wardani, will face the host team Thailand in Pathum Thani at 10:00 AM WIB after defeating Malaysia in the semifinals. Later at 03:00 PM WIB, Alwi Farhan and the Indonesian men’s squad will take on Malaysia for the title, following their victory over Singapore.
Indonesia is also looking to secure additional medals in other sports, including swimming, canoeing, ju-jitsu, petanque, taekwondo, and even ice hockey. The contingent hopes these early opportunities will build strong momentum in the overall medal standings.
