TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bogor City Police have named the gallon truck driver, Bendi Wijaya, as a suspect in the fatal accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate. This was revealed by the Head of the Bogor City Traffic Unit, Commissioner Yudiono, on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
According to Yudi, Bendi jumped out of the tronton truck he was driving just moments before the collision. "(Based on the suspect's statement), he had made maximum efforts to control his vehicle, but he couldn't do it anymore and eventually jumped," said Yudi as quoted from the documentation video by the Bogor City Police Public Relations.
Bendi himself has been declared fit by the doctor and was examined as a witness on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Yudi stated that the basis for naming Bendi as a suspect was the probing of witnesses, including Bendi, as well as evidence from the CCTV. "We named him as a suspect based on the witness examination," he said.
Yudi also stated that the police are still investigating the cause of the accident, including the suspected brake failure. Bendi is charged under Article 311 of Law Number 22 of 2009 regarding Traffic and Road Transportation with a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.
On Tuesday night, February 4, 2025, the tronton truck collided with five vehicles at the Ciawi Toll Gate, Katulampa Sub-District, Bogor City. The vehicles were hit while queuing for e-toll payment. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of eight people, injuring 11 others.
