The Philadelphia Eagles sent a special visitor bearing gifts to check in on New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo following his gruesome injury on Sunday.

Skattebo, the rookie running back out of Arizona State, had been a shot in the arm of the Giants' season hopes with his top performances in recent weeks.

However, the rookie suffered a dislocated ankle on Sunday - with cameras showing his foot at a 90 degree angle. He was promptly transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital to undergo further treatment.

In a gesture of goodwill amongst rivals, the Eagles sent chief of security Dom DiSandro - known by fans as 'Big Dom' - to Skattebo's room.

According to multiple reports, not only did he come to check in on the rookie, he also brought along Philly cheesesteaks and pizza to boost his spirits.

It's a lighthearted moment following a sudden end to the season for a budding Giants star.

Giants rookie Cam Skattebo suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Philadelphia on Sunday

Skattebo dislocated his ankle and underwent surgery - ending his rookie campaign early

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Skattebo's injury will mark the end to his season.

'Skattebo had really electrified the league over the course of the last several weeks when he became one of the faces of the Giants franchise and I don't expect that to change, he's just not going to be doing it on the field this year,' Rapoport said on Good Morning Football.

'They took him immediately to a local hospital... and had surgery last night to repair that ankle.

'Now the reason to do that is to make sure it is set properly, to make sure there are no infections and no complications. It is out of an abundance of caution.'

Rapoport added, 'If all is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone believes, he should be back with no issues for next year. It's a gruesome injury but the recovery is not as bad.'

On Monday, Skattebo took to his social media to thank his fans and update his recovery.

'Thank you to everyone for the support!! Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me,' he posted to X.

'Every moment I spent in the hospital with family and friends I felt loved and supported in every way [heart emoji] thank you to the doctors, surgeons, and staff that did their best work on me.

'This is just the beginning of my journey and I can't wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out, BRB.'
