Former San Jose State football star Chandler Jones has died at the age of 33 after being struck by a car in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.
According to MyNewsLA.com, Jones was fatally hit by a Toyota RAV4 on the Marina Freeway at around 2am.
The ex-Spartans wide receiver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office said that he died from blunt traumatic injuries.
'Forever in our hearts, #89,' San Jose State Football wrote on its X account. 'In loving memory of Spartan wide receiver and coach, Chandler Jones.'
Jones, nicknamed 'the Jet' from his time at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California was the only player in San Jose State history to record at least 50 receptions in each of his four seasons.
The LA native earned All-WAC honors at wide receiver, with his best season coming when he recorded 79 passes for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2013.

Jones was a first-team All-Mountain West selection and an honorable mention All-America wide receiver.
He also finished his collegiate career with the Spartans as their all-time leader in both receptions (248) and touchdown catches (31).
After leaving college, Jones went on to appear on the practice squads of NFL teams the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns. He also played for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes in 2016.
The San Jose State hero later returned to his old school as a defensive assistant for the football team.
'I coached for 50 years, and I've coached a lot of people and there's some really special ones, and he's at the top of the deal,' ex-Spartans wide receivers coach Terry Malley told the San Francisco Chronicle.
'He brought a vibrancy to every day, he was passionate about it, and he was a great teammate. … Chandler was a really, really good human being.
'If you go through the 105 guys who were on our team, nobody would say anything bad about Chandler. I think they all wished that they attacked life the way he did.'
