Legendary NFL running back Adrian Peterson was allegedly found asleep at the wheel by police - with a pistol in the car - before being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Sunday.
According to court documents, Sugar Land police officers said they woke up Peterson after responding to a call at a Shell gas station in the Houston suburb around 9am Sunday.
Cops stated that they then got him out of his vehicle and offered medical assistance, which was declined. Peterson allegedly said he didn't know where he was, with officers claiming he had glossy, red eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
Per the court document, Peterson told cops he was trying to drive home from a poker game after having 'approximately two to three shots of a Vodka mix... approximately two to three hours ago'.
But a witness at the poker game told TMZ they saw the football legend 'drinking like a fish'. Another claimed Peterson was there for hours and made several trips to his car to grab more money to gamble.
Officers performed a sobriety test before arresting him on suspicion of DWI.

Afterward, officers reported finding a pistol in Peterson's glove box. The 40-year-old was released on bail from the Fort Bend County jail in Texas on Tuesday. His $3,000 bond covered both charges: DWI and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The Daily Mail has attempted to contact an attorney for Peterson.
Peterson has now been arrested twice within the past seven months on a similar allegation. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Minneapolis in April and charged with a fourth-degree misdemeanor of driving while impaired.
Earlier this week, a mugshot of the Minnesota Vikings legend was released following his latest arrest.
It showed the former running back staring down the lens with a blank expression, while wearing a black top.
Peterson hails from Palestine, Texas, which is a small town located around three hours north of Sugar Land.
The 2012 MVP last played in the NFL in 2021. Peterson finished with 14,918 career rushing yards and 120 touchdowns on the ground across 15 seasons, the first 10 with the Minnesota Vikings.
