A clip of Tom Brady fighting back the tears while admitting he isn't as good of a father as his own dad and claiming to be 'tormented' has resurfaced online.

Brady, 48, has three children from his relationships with ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and former girlfriend Bridget Moynahan; Jack, 18, Benjamin, 15, and Vivian, 12.

The legendary NFL quarterback opened up on his life as a dad in a 2022 interview with ESPN, which was aired months before his split from Gisele in October of that year.

In the interview, he became visibly emotional after conceding that he doesn't stack up to his own dad, Tom Brady Sr., in the father department.

'When I think about being a dad, I think about him because of what my dad meant to me. And I know I'm not as good a dad to my kids that my dad's been to me,' Brady says in the video, which went viral on social media this week.

'I use them as my example as to how to keep a family together, and to care and to support and to love.

'We want our kids to be happy. I want them to be respectful of people, I want them to be kind. I want them to make the world a better place.'

Brady, who won a record seven Super Bowls in his career, had just wrapped up his penultimate NFL season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when the original ESPN interview was aired.

He went on to suggest that he couldn't offer his children as much love and attention as his dad gave him due to the 'torment' of being a professional athlete.

'I want them to experience great success in whatever they do, but there's a torment about me that I don't wish upon them,' the football icon added.

Earlier this year Gisele, who co-parents her two children with Brady, was left 'infuriated' after her ex-husband took a 'petty' shot at her parenting skills, a bombshell report claimed.

Gisele's anger at Brady un-retiring from the NFL to join the Buccaneers in the twilight of his career was well-documented, and he appeared to take a swipe at her in a recent newsletter to his fans.

'I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family,' Brady wrote. 'I chose to do it by playing football.'

He continued: 'My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused - those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.'

According to the National Inquirer, those remarks may have backfired on him - because his ex-wife was reportedly furious and 'ready to hit back hard' if he goes any further.

'People have warned him that Gisele won't stand for it, but Tom's been sitting back and holding his tongue for too long and he can't do it anymore,' an insider told the publication.

'Tom has a different take on parenting than Gisele and he's merely sticking up for himself. At least, that's the way he sees it. The more he reflects on it, the more cross he is about how she treated him during the marriage and how she complained about him pursuing his passion. He just had to say something.

'Word from Gisele's camp is that she's furious and thinks he's acting bitter and being a nuisance. Since they split, all she wanted was to do her thing privately — but now here's Tom needlessly stoking the fire with these statements.

'Tom's pals are saying he should quit making these thinly veiled comments — or at least he should tread more carefully!'
