New footage of the Steelers-Bengals brawl show that Ja'Marr Chase did spit on rival Jalen Ramsey.
In the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, with the Steelers leading 20-9, Ramsey clashed with Chase and then threw a punch at the Bengals receiver.
That sparked a mass on-field melee and saw the Steelers cornerback ejected from the game. After the game, Ramsey accused Chase of spitting on him.
'He spit on me - I don't give a f*** about football after that, respectfully,' the Steelers star told reporters. 'It's what p*****s do, quite honestly.'
Chase denied the accusation, insisting: 'I didn't spit on nobody. I ain't ever opened my mouth to that guy.' But footage, posted by Fox19, contradicted the receiver's account.
It showed Chase spitting before Ramsey reacted furiously and, after the game, his Steelers teammate Cam Heyward called on the NFL to take action against Chase.
Jalen Ramsey (L) was spat on by Ja'Marr Chase during the Bengals-Steelers game on Sunday
'Two competitors, but one guy took it too far. Our guy got penalized, but if you're gonna spit on a guy, you don't belong in the game and hopefully the NFL handles it,' the defensive lineman said.
'We all tried to calm Jalen down. But if a man spits on you, that's a different reaction you that you shouldn't ever have to deal with.'
Chase had tried to claim that it was his jawing that tipped Ramsey over the edge. 'He don't like some of the words I told him,' the receiver said.
'We've been going back-and-forth the whole time, so I'm sure something got under his skin.'
Ramsey reacted by throwing a punch at the Bengals receiver, leading to a mass on-field melee
Tensions quickly boiled over and players from both teams intervened to diffuse the situation
But Ramsey said: 'I'm always gonna be all for trash talking, s*** talking, stuff like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game.'
Their clash came shortly after both Ramsey and Chase had received penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
After Ramsey's punch, the pair were eventually separated thanks to the help of offensive and defensive players on both teams.
Even as he was being escorted off the field, however, Ramsey continued chirping at his Bengals rivals, particularly Chase.
