TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The name of the Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto is currently in the spotlight after being named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The determination is related to a bribery case that previously implicated PDIP politician Harun Masiku, who is now a fugitive since 2020.

Former KPK investigator who handled this case, Ronald Paul Sinyal, said that Hasto's name had actually emerged in the 2020 investigation. According to Ronald, almost 50 percent of the bribe money given by Harun Masiku to KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan was suspected to be Hasto's money. "As far as I can remember, based on the statement of one of the suspects, almost half of the Rp1 billion came from Hasto," he told Tempo, Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

Ronald only held the case briefly because he was eliminated along with 74 other KPK employees in the National Insight Test (TWK) process in 2021. Ronald said that at that time Wahyu admitted to receiving Rp1 billion from Harun Masiku. Meanwhile, information that some of the money came from Hasto came from Saeful Bahri who was also named a suspect at that time. Saeful is a former PDIP cadre and lawyer for the bull party. For this case, Saeful was sentenced to 20 months in prison. He is now free.

He recalled that at that time his task force had submitted Hasto Kristiyanto's name to be named a suspect, but it was hampered. "I have submitted it, told all the task force heads up to the director, his name has been mentioned, it should go up. But it was always said that two people had to mention it," he said. He also agreed to raise Hasto's name from other suspects, but after that there was never any agreement.

Previously, KPK Chairman Setyo Budianto said that Hasto Kristiyanto played a role in the bribery case carried out by Harun Masiku to the member of the General Election Commission (KPU) for the 2017-2022 period Wahyu Setiawan. The bribe was to pass Harun Masiku as a member of the DPR to replace Nazarudin Kiemas who died.

In this case, the KPK has named six suspects. The latest are Hasto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, members of the PDIP legal team who are Hasto's confidants. Others are Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio, former Bawaslu members as recipients of bribes, then Harun Masiku and Saeful Bahri.

Chair of the PDIP Central Leadership Council for National Legal System Reform Ronny Talapessy assessed that the KPK had been trapped in political interests. "The determination of the secretary general as a suspect is different from other cases. This is a very political case," said Ronny.

Ronny claimed that the political content in this case was obvious because recently Hasto Kristiyanto often made harsh criticisms of the government. Moreover, PDIP also recently fired Jokowi, Gibran Rakabuming, and Bobby Nasution. "If this news is true, it has emerged again since the secretary general was critical of the election and conveyed a lot of criticism of the quality of our democracy," said Ronny.
