Ex-Manchester City record signing Jo has reportedly been arrested for a fourth time over unpaid child maintenance.

The 38-year-old, who has eight children, was detained on Thursday at a barbecue in Rio de Janeiro over unpaid maintenance contributions reaching as much as £31,500 from 2024.

It comes after Jo, who played up front for City between 2008 and 2011, was arrested twice in the cities of Campinas and Contagem over the same issues.

Maira Quiderolly, one of the footballer's ex-girlfriends, dubbed Jo a 's*** father' after news of one of his 2024 arrests was made public. It's however unsure whether the child maintenance is related to their son together, Joao Gabriel.

In a video posted on Instagram, she ranted: 'I can't receive the pension correctly. When he pays on the right day, he pays in different amounts so I can't receive it correctly! It's always torture to get things, and I'm always considering wrong!

'The only thing set by law, he doesn't do correctly! It's always torture to get things, and always I'm considered wrong.'

Jo joined the Cityzens in a record deal back in 2008 before later going on loan to Everton

'My son is SURE that his father is not present, some are hoping if he will arrive, if he will call, anyway...'

'I think the biggest difficulty is yet to come, which is when you start asking me questions. For now, none!' Quiderolly said when asked by a follower about the challenges of single motherhood.

'Better this way than a bad example of a father next door. How many children suffer more from the little absence than from the nothing!'

Jo was believed to have been en route to a clash against Ponte Preta while he was still playing for Serie B side Amazonas in May 2024 when police hauled him off the team bus.

He was taken to the 10th Police District of Campinas, where he was kept overnight but later freed after paying maintenance contributions demanded by police.

Jo joined Manchester City over 14 years ago, then tempted away from CSKA Moscow to become the club record signing in a £19million deal in 2008.

But he failed to settle at the Etihad, instead enjoying two loan stints at Everton between 2009 and 2011, before a third at Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray.

He later returned back to Brazil where he played for a host of sides including Corinthians, who he enjoyed two stints with.

He ultimately hung up his boots earlier this year after a short time with Itabirito.
