A former Manchester United star was bizarrely spotted alongside Ryan Reynolds in Wrexham's hospitality box during the Welsh club's Championship clash with QPR.

Wrexham slipped to 21st in the table after enduring a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the Racecourse Ground - their third loss out of five games so far this season.

As Hollywood owner Reynolds watched on in anguish, fans were surprised to spot former Red Devils defender Phil Jones, 33, right behind him.

The former England international, who left Old Trafford in 2023 after 12 years at the club, spent a season out of the game before choosing to call time on his career.

A highly-rated youngster during the early stages of his career, Jones moved to Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers for £16.5million in 2011 and went on to win Sir Alex Ferguson's final Premier League title at Old Trafford.

His career was blighted through persistent injury issues however, and the centre-back ultimately fell down the pecking order before leaving the club with the long-term view of moving into coaching.

Reynolds' Wrexham have struggled so far in the Championship, despite splashing out £32.5m

At the beginning of the 2023-24 season, he began a coaching role working within Manchester United's academy.

Reynolds and fellow Hollywood owner Rob McElhenney invested significantly in Wrexham this summer, splashing out an estimated £32.5m on the likes on Nathan Broadhead, Callum Doyle and former England star Conor Coady.

It comes after the Welsh club sensationally earned three successive promotions from the National League up to the second tier of English football, but the Championship is proving a challenge for Phil Parkinson's men.

Wrexham's next test against Norwich at Carrow Road next Saturday, before a Carabao Cup clash against Reading three days later.
